Course Structure & Schedule

The Enriched Air Diver Course is primarily theory-based and can be completed in a few hours. It comprises 3 main components:

Knowledge development to learn the theoretical basics of diving with enriched air or Nitrox. Once a course is booked, we assign e-learning materials at the earliest to help you complete theory sections at your pace & convenience, prior to arrival at the dive centre.

In-person, instructor-led session to learn how to understand gas blends, analyze your tank, calculate maximum operating depth, set your dive computer for enriched air use and a detailed discussion on safety procedures.

Optional open water dives for practical application of all your freshly acquired knowledge!

At UNA, our team of qualified instructors are happy to conduct the Enriched Air Diver Course anytime during working hours with a little headsup. However, if you plan on doing the optional open water dives, we highly recommend that you visit us at the dive center a day before going diving to complete the in-person segments, paperwork & get yourself fitted for the equipment you will be using the next day!

We are also happy to conduct the Enriched Air Diver Course alongside your Open Water, Advanced Open Water or other PADI courses to ensure you make the most of the time you spend with us! Just get in touch and we'll be happy to curate a personalized itinerary for you!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the benefits of diving with Enriched Air Nitrox?

The biggest benefit of Nitrox is that it lets you spend more time underwater by reducing the amount of nitrogen your body absorbs during a dive. With less nitrogen in your breathing mix, your no-decompression limits are extended, and your surface intervals are shorter, meaning you can safely do more dives in a day.

For example, using a 36% Nitrox mix at 18 meters can increase your bottom time from 50 to around 80 minutes (depending on your dive computer). You'll also stay well within safety limits, reducing fatigue and decompression risk. Most divers find that Nitrox is especially valuable on liveaboard trips, dive holidays, or multi-dive days, when longer, safer dives make every moment underwater count.

Is diving with Nitrox safe?

Absolutely - when used correctly. You'll learn how to analyze your tank's oxygen content, track your oxygen exposure, and set your dive computer properly to ensure every dive is safe and within limits.

Do I need special equipment to dive with Nitrox?

Most modern dive gear, including dive computers, work perfectly fine with Nitrox up to 40% oxygen (the recreational limit). You'll just need to ensure your tank is clearly labeled and analyzed before each dive - skills covered in your training.

Does using Nitrox allow me to dive deeper?

No - in fact, it's the opposite. Diving with Nitrox does not allow you to go deeper than when diving with regular air. Because Nitrox has a higher oxygen content, it actually has a shallower maximum operating depth instead, its advantage lies in allowing you to stay longer at moderate depths (typically between 15-30 meters/50-100 feet) without exceeding your no-decompression limits.

In short, Nitrox lets you dive longer, not deeper - making it perfect for repetitive dives or for visiting multiple dive sites in a day.
